Portfolio Series: Venice
Portfolio Series: Venice is an intensive storytelling and creative process workshop that concentrates on the creation of a specific and personal portfolio of work that is created during the workshop. David duChemin will assist, review, critique, guide, and mentor each participant on a daily basis in order to nourish your personal vision and help you create a cohesive body of work that represents your personal photographic vision of this magnificent location.
During this intensive photographic workshop you will discover a deeper Venice. You will spend the entire week at this spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site, photographing the splendor of Venice, the lively canals, the iconic gondolas, Piazza San Marco at night, and the daily culture that is still Venice when the tourists depart.
Venice is spectacular at any hour, and there will be plenty of opportunities to photograph in the earliest mornings and latest evenings, as well as exploring the surrounding islands, and spending time discussing photography over some of the best food and drink imaginable. Travel around Venice and the lagoon will be by vaporetto (waterbus), and we will be staying at a single four-star boutique hotel near Teatro La Fenice for our week in Venice.
In addition to the city of Venice, we will visit several other islands in the lagoon. Colorful Murano is best known for its glass factories, but the architecture is not to be ignored. Lovely churches are adorned from ceiling to floor; their lonely arches serve to frame the beautiful artisanship of these glassworks. Further afield, we will find ourselves in charming Burano, a collection of islands divided by canals but linked by bridges. Often overlooked in favour of Murano, Burano is home to fishermen and lace makers, living in the small, brightly painted houses and is also known for its vibrant artist community. We will wander the streets in both these places and not only find great food but also come home with great photographs.
Venice abounds in inspiration and beauty—with something intriguing around every corner and down every calle. Portfolio Series: Venice is your opportunity to express the beauty of Venice in a cohesive portfolio with the mentorship of David duChemin.
Participation is by application and portfolio review by David duChemin. Participation is limited to four photographers. Currently it is only possible to be added to the wait list.
